Nanjo is like, I haven't done anything, you ignore all my advice. Kinzo is like, Nanjo you're not just my doctor but also my friend. Genji looks like he's going to go strangle somebody for Goldfinger. Sprites for everybody in Umineko, including old dudes! Higurashi and its sprite-limits would be so jealous. Rononue Genji, the servant, has a sprite too. Nanjo is like, "Keep drinking and you'll die" and Kinzo is like, "Hah-hah, thanks, but fuck that Imma keep drinking." His servant Genji gives him more booze. (Related to Battler but not his father.) He's a cantankerous old guy but his sprite is very dignified. Ushiromiya Kinzo is the guy Nanjo was examining. Also a picture of the Golden Witch (I think from various artwork I've seen) on the wall. The narration clarifies he's examining another old guy confined to bed (in a study) and there's a servant watching. Complaining somebody still likes alcohol. Nanjo Terumasa, an old dude in a white labcoat, a doctor. (Just kidding, I barely know anything about Phoenix Wright.) (I guess he would be our protagonist.) Looks like Phoenix Wright is about to accuse him of something. Went to live with his grandparents when his father remarried after his mother died six years ago, but has now come back for a "family conference" since his grandparents died. TIPS (example): Ushiromiya Battler, a red-headed man dressed in a sharp suit. We're starting off with "standard difficulty" and "easy road", so I don't expect the gruesome murders to start until the last third or so of chapter one. I'm guessing that's the island I'll be getting to know. (image of a mansion entrance, with the sound of waves and seagulls crying) Will you find your happiness, or more of just the same? More of just the same. "Say you chose again, a different story, different way. Whelp, I guess that's it, we can proceed. I have downloaded the 07th-Mod Pack for this series and will be using the mods I want to use, though I actually like the newer sprites over the PS3 sprites. Do not ask me to make a model for Higurashi time travel. While I enjoyed Higurashi a great deal, there were a few places where I was like "but how does the magic actually work and why can't the character use it to." and that was just not a question the story was interested in asking. I hope nobody gets mad at me if I don't react right or have sympathy for the wrong person or care about the wrong thing or whatever. Other than that, I've seen some scattered images and such but I don't know anything about the story. Apparently there will be parts where there is terrible abuse, including child abuse, as part of the story being told, but it should all presumably end with a satisfying resolution and happy ending. I am unclear if Umineko is a time-loop story like Higurashi was, though I am thinking it probably is. (Or wait, Satoko might actually be a third witch named Lambda Delta or something.) I have no idea what Bernkastel and Beatrice will actually be doing though. Also, there are two "witches" (I think genuinely magical people) one of whom is Rika from Higurashi's evil(ish) alternate time-traveling self Bernkastel and the other is I think named Beatrice the Golden Witch and is maybe Satoko's evil(ish) alternate time-traveling self from the recent Higurashi continuation, though nobody knew that when Umineko came out I guess. The male protagonist is someone called "Battler", I think, who is apparently not regarded as very interesting as a character. But from a stray comment I saw someone make once, "Magic is for little babies." Indeed. Secretly, their patriarch is trying to cast some kind of magical ritual that the rest of them do not know about. The basic premise is that there is this family of rich people who have been summoned to an island for what they think is a family meeting. I have been largely unspoiled on Umineko, but I do know some things. As Ryukishi07 says, the "game" is that this is a mystery where I as reader am challenged to interpret the clues and figure out what is happening before it's revealed in story. As with Higurashi When They Cry, my understanding is that this is not a "game" where I as the player make choices, but rather a visual novel where I click through the story until the end. The plan is that I'm going to record my reactions to Umineko as I play through. Well, it's been two and a half years since I played Higurashi When They Cry, and I am finally sitting down to play Umineko. NOTE: I will be cross-posting this to a few different forums, and I have already played for a number of hours, writing in real time as I go, so I have some backlog built up. Contrariwise, I will be dropping unlabeled spoilers for Higurashi When They Cry as seem relevant to me, so don't read if you are worried about Higurashi spoilers. SPOILER WARNING/REQUEST: Please no spoilers for Umineko When They Cry past the point where I am in the narrative.
